Willingness to change is a strength, even if it means plunging part of the company into total confusion for a while. – Jack Welch
Yesterday marked both LexBlog’s 10 year anniversary and the start to a new year for us. As noted in Kevin McKeown’s post It’s a brand new year at LexBlog – exciting news!, we’ve spent the past year “working hard to make great things happen in 2014.” As a young professional, this is the first time I have gone through such a large scale change at a company and I am amazed at what went on the past year.
A little over a year ago, we gathered as a company and together we made the decision to make some significant changes to improve the experience for our clients. We knew at that time that it was going to be tough and that there would be many hard days. Though we are not through the trenches yet and still have a long road ahead of us, I am humbled by the true teamwork that has gone into the past year. We’ve supported each other with such grace and kept pushing along. We also found time for a little fun, too.
So, thank you LexBlog team for working together towards improving the company and thank you to our clients because we would not be here today if it wasn’t for you.
I started this post with a quote from Jack Welch, former Chairman & CEO of GE. It is a longer story of how I came to learn about Jack and his leadership style but to sum it up, before my grandpa passed away a few years ago, he gave me Jack’s book with a heartfelt note inside. My grandpa also spent many years working for GE. Like any business leader, there were pros and cons to Jack’s style but I learned a lot and still have the book with me today.
Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion. – Jack Welch
Both of these quotes mean a lot to me. What we have done at LexBlog over just the four years I’ve been part of the company is amazing. It all starts with strong leadership, trust in your team and the willingness to change. Change is hard but can be oh so rewarding.
I am excited to see what 2014 has in store.
